The Department of Mechanical Engineering established in the year 2000. In the academic year 2000-01 with intake strength of 60 students, with the approval of AICTE, the Government of Tamilnadu and Anna University. From the academic year 2004-05, the student’s intake increased up to 120, then from the academics year 2011-2012 the students intake strength in our department has been increased to 240, considering the demand from the student community. We have energetic and dynamic Faculty for providing complete Engineering Education converting young individuals into Engineers, with both classroom and shop floor knowledge.
The most versatile, challenging, exciting and broadest of all engineering disciplines deals with the design and production of tools, machines and all other Mechanical equipments to be used in industries. Mechanical Engineering is concerned with all types of machinery, their mechanism and function. Our richly integrated curriculum of theory and practice aims to develop Engineers with creativity and overall ability so that they can lead the world with their own capacity. Students travel through a balance of intellectual and practical experiences in this 4 year under graduate engineering discipline that enables them to address a variety of societal needs. The objective of the programme is to cultivate engineers who, with ethics for engineers as their base, have the ability to investigate overall phenomena including global and social environment issues.
Our program will provide the essential knowledge and flexibility to the future mechanical engineers who indeed will play a leading role in the creation of the technology of the twenty first century. Our laboratories are equipped with the needed equipments to provide the students with a hands-on-experience.
To create globally recognized competent Mechanical engineers to work in multicultural environment.
Mechanical engineering is one of the most important engineering disciplines. Detailed technical areas include design and manufacturing, fluid mechanics, industrial engineering, materials science, solid mechanics, systems engineering, thermal science, micro & nano-technology and environmental engineering. Mechanical engineers typically engage in one or more of the following:
research, development, design, testing, manufacturing, operation and maintenance, marketing, sales and administration for the development of the ethical society. Mechanical engineers have vast exposure and challenging work in the area of Automobile industry, Aerospace industry, Steel plants, Power generation industries, Paper industries, Chemical industries, Communication sector, Computer industries, Postal departments, Railway departments, Banking sector, etc.
